World's Premier Automotive Museum Invites the Public To Get Down With One Of Los Angeles' Most Prominent Cultural Symbols Modifying their suspension and dropping as close to the pavement as possible, The Petersen Automotive Museum will showcase one of the most famous and culturally significant kinds of vehicles of the past 50 years. On November 1, 2007, La Vida Lowrider: Cruising the City of Angels will track the origins and progression of the vehicles that continue to represent artistic freedom and cultural resistance.
"The Petersen Museum is paying homage to the historical connection between the automobile and the city of Los Angeles," said Dick Messer, director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. "Following the success of our initial exhibition on the local Lowrider culture, we decided to offer a new wave of enthusiasts the chance to experience the ways in which the lowrider automobile became a symbol of the Latino culture and the remarkable progressions it has made over the past 50 years."
The Petersen Automotive Museum will honor these cultural symbols with significant ties to Los Angeles for a seven-month exhibit showcasing more than 20 vehicles that are set to cruise into the museum, including several iconic works of art:

Company to strengthen U.S. manufacturing presence with significant future investments, parties also agree to create independent retiree health care trust General Motors sent out a release this morning saying the United Auto Workers have reached a tentative agreement on a new national labor contract, covering approximately 74,000 represented employees. The agreement is subject to UAW member ratification. This agreement should bring an immediate end to the two-day strike. The tentative agreement includes a memorandum of understanding to establish an independent retiree health care trust, as well as other changes to the national agreement. Following ratification, implementation of the memorandum of understanding is subject to approval by the courts, and satisfactory review of accounting treatment with the Securities and Exchange Commission. "There's no question this was one of the most complex and difficult bargaining sessions in the history of the GM/UAW relationship," said Rick Wagoner, GM Chairman and CEO. "I'd like to thank UAW President Ron Gettelfinger, UAW Vice President Cal Rapson, and their bargaining team for their leadership and hard work in negotiating the agreement." The national agreement paves the way for General Motors to improve its manufacturing competitiveness, while also providing the basis for maintaining and strengthening its core manufacturing base in the United States. "This agreement helps us close the fundamental competitive gaps that exist in our business," Wagoner said. "The projected competitive improvements in this agreement will allow us to maintain a strong manufacturing presence in the United States along with significant future investments."

Volvo Cars introduced the Volvo ReCharge Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show, a plug-in hybrid with individual electric wheel motors and batteries that can be recharged via a regular electrical outlet for maximum environmental benefit. The Volvo ReCharge Concept made its debut in a specially designed Volvo C30. Plug-in charging allows the car to be driven about 60 miles on battery power alone before its four-cylinder Flexifuel engine is needed to power the car and recharge the battery.
"A certain proportion of electrical vehicles will be necessary to meet the CO2 emission demands of the future. Since the Volvo ReCharge Concept combines an excellent battery range with a backup combustion engine, it is a very interesting concept," said Magnus Jonsson, Senior Vice President Research and Development at Volvo Cars.
 | | Click To View | The ReCharge Concept was developed at the Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center (VMCC), the Volvo Car Corporation's think-tank in Camarillo, California.
"This is a ground-breaking innovation for sustainable transportation. A person driving less than 100 kilometres a day will rarely need to visit a filling station. In the USA, this may apply to almost 80 percent of drivers," said Jonsson.

Major League Baseball and Chevrolet, the official vehicle of Major League Baseball, have announced the names of the 30 Club nominees who are finalists for the prestigious 2007 Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevrolet. The national award is given annually to the Major League Baseball player who combines outstanding skills on the baseball field with devoted work in the community. September 5, 2007, also marks the sixth annual Roberto Clemente Day, which was established by Major League Baseball in 2002 to honor the memory of Roberto Clemente and to officially recognize local Club recipients of the Roberto Clemente Award.
The Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevrolet is named for the 12-time All-Star and Hall of Famer who died in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1972 while attempting to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. "On behalf of Major League Baseball, I am proud to recognize the 2007 Club winners of the Roberto Clemente Award, and commend them for making significant contributions both on and off the field," said Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig.
