Commentary from a woman living in a car guy's world.

Even though I had served as online editor for more than six years at MotorTrend.com and have called myself a writer for at least 25, I originally found the idea of having my own blog a bit intimidating. In the time since I posted my first blog at that 'other' automotive website, I've become a lot more comfortable with my role as a blogging dot com mom.  With that confession out of the way, I'd like to share a little background about me so you know where I'm coming from.

I discovered words were my strength in a third-grade spelling bee and journalism has been my passion since I became editor of my high school newspaper ("thank you, Mr. Call!"). One of my proudest moments was winning a national feature writing award from the Journalism Education Association in my senior year of high school.

I worked my way through California Lutheran University as a graphic artist/typesetter, and now, after more than 25 years of publishing experience in a variety of roles and subjects ranging from guns to golf to boats to cars, my current role is managing editor for AutomotiveTraveler.com. I also am a contributing editor for a female friendly automotive site called askpatty.com . In both these places, I handle a variety of duties including developing, writing, photographing and programming stories, nitpicking over sundry details and organizing projects and freelance editors. Besides my own children, many other people who know me call me "Mom."  I consider myself fortunate to have a job I love and to have spent so much time in an industry that is always changing and challenging.

I first burned rubber in a red 1976 Chevy Monza and recently traded in my sportified Honda Civic for an Accord sedan to better accommodate my growing family. I love it when I get a chance for some seat time in manufacturer test vehicles. It helps broaden my hands-on experience to be able to pilot everything from an entry-level Kia to a $100,000 BMW M6 or Cadillac XLR-V. I've driven race-tuned cars on the Laguna Seca racetrack, and have pushed luxury cars against their 155-mph limits on long, straight stretches of highway. I have chosen only manual- transmission cars since I first learned to drive and consider the fact that I've put 135,000 miles on my Accord's original clutch a badge of honor.

I'm the mother of 14- and 4.5-year-old boys so I've got lots to say about safety. I also love to drive and one of my favorite routes traverses the famed Mulholland Drive and Hollywood Hills, so I hope to share insights related to my life the behind the wheel. Finally, who doesn't love to talk about cars? After all, this is AutomotiveTraveler.com, and if we don't have car stuff to talk about, I'm gonna be out of work!

Welcome to my blog here at AutomotiveTraveler.com. I'm sure we're all going to enjoy the ride!
