Help the alumni of the California School for the Deaf reach their fundraising goals by entering to win this Plum Crazy 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger.
Some weekends are busier than others, and this weekend was a challenge. It started Thursday night shooting a 1950 Dodge wood-bodied station wagon here in Temecula wine country. This was followed Friday evening and all day Saturday with three more woodies. Throw in a Sunday morning VW show in Carlsbad in the shadow of Legoland and concluding Sunday night at the Taco Station in Riverside to photograph this very special car. It's a fully restored and supercharged Plum Crazy 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger. Best of all, you can win this car and contribute to a good cause in the process, as it was built by the Inland Mopar Car Club for the Alumni Association of the California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR). It's their annual raffle car, and it could be yours for as little as five dollars.
This is the third time that the Inland Mopar Car Club has donated their time to build a car for the CSDR. In 2007, their first build was a 1967 Dodge Dart. That initial effort was followed in 2008 with increased support from more than a dozen sponsors. The 2008 raffle car built by the club was a 1968 Plymouth Valiant won by John Kielb from Lakewood, California with the purchase of just four tickets. And while the 1968 Valiant was a fine effort, this year's prize, the 1970 Dart Swinger, takes things to the next level beginning under the hood where you'll find a Paxton-supercharged 360 V8 backed up with a heavy duty column-mounted 904 3-speed Torque-Flite automatic and an 8 ¾ rear end.
When you slip behind the wheel, it's 1970 all over again. First there's the contrasting white vinyl interior provided by Legendary Auto Interiors that is truly better than original. Every detail is perfect, including the updated audio system with kick panel-mounted front speakers provided by the Audio Shoppe. Then, gripping the steering wheel, you turn the key and the Paxton-supercharged 360 roars to life, complemented by the perfect exhaust note provided by the dual exhausts. Among the aftermarket suppliers who have supported this and earlier Inland Mopar Car Club projects, this Dart benefits from speed parts provided by Edelbrock, Milodon, Grant, and Comp Cams.
