What's behind me IS important.
I must admit that I’ve been a bit slow to catch on to the whole blog thing. First off is the way that most are set up, using just about half of the width of the screen, not taking advantage of all the available real estate. I hate wasting available real estate…it makes me crazy.

This Sunday, June 8th, Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California will host a gathering of top-tier muscle cars from 10 AM to 7 PM. Spectacular cars from all eras gather at Pasadena's Rose Bowl for a memorable event and our newest image gallery.
Under the shadows of the Rose Bowl, the 3rd Annual Los Angeles Concours d'Elegance took place this past Sunday. Combining cars from the pre-war classics era with exotics, woodies, cars from the fifties and sixties, and a sprinkling of muscle cars (including a 1969 AMC SC/Rambler owned by Automotive Traveler contributor Mark Fletcher), the 350 cars cut an impressive pose on the manicured lawns of the Brookside Golf Course adjacent to the Pasadena landmark.

It was another great weekend for car shows here in Southern California where in addition to my weekly attendance at Cars and Coffee in Irvine on Saturday morning, there were major events on Sunday: the 23rd annual Huntington Beach Concours d'Elegance and the 3rd annual Los Angeles Concours. In addition to these two major events, there were several more local and regional events spread throughout Southern California. The one of most interest to me was the SoCal AMX Club American Motors show, held at the NHRA Museum in Pomona on Saturday. There was a broad spectrum of American Motors orphans there; close to 50 in total with emphasis on two-seat AMXs and four-seat Javelins.

Trolling on eBay we found this unique muscle-car wagon and two vintage Airstreams
One of my travel dreams has been to locate a period-correct sixties travel trailer, a classic Airstream or possibly a Shasta, and hit the road for the summer. And of course if I had such a trailer, I'd want to tow it with something equally period-correct. If you share my dream, then you should take a look at this 427-powered COPO 1969 Chevy Kingswood Estate now offered by former Motor Trend editor and current ESPN commentator C. Van Tune.

Probably not, but I did read his anti-car, anti-Detroit manifesto this morning.
I love cars; I make no secret about that fact. And I love to travel, thus the current price of fuel has brought a certain level of pain, dare I say sacrifice, to my lifestyle and driving habits. Over the long Memorial Day weekend I had planned to drive up to Reno to cover a Mustang show but instead changed my plans at the last minute. The cost of going up to Reno could not be recovered by the potential revenue I would gain by producing show coverage for my editorial clients. The forces of the marketplace modified my behavior, causing me to cancel the 800-mile trip.
In this morning's opinion page of The New York Times, op-ed columnist, Thomas L. Friedman, whose past anti-car, and specifically his anti-Detroit biases are well documented, penned a column entitled "Truth or Consequences " where he outlined his superficial solutions to our country's current woes at the pump.
